Blurb:
Cassandra
Vera never ever breaks the rules.
Ever!
She’s
also had a nonexistent social life since her best friend moved to Vegas. Armed
with a new set of resolutions, the promise of a hot date, and her adoptive
parents out of town, Cassandra agrees an overnight road trip to Las Vegas to
celebrate her birthday is the perfect way to ring in the New Year. After all,
it's Vegas, the city where secrets are meant to stay hidden. Little does Cassandra know the secrets of her
own pastare buried there, as well.
In the
shadows of the glitz and gaudy lights of Vegas lies a power struggle centuries
old. One wrong step and Cassandra could destroy the delicate web of
secrets. Now an enemy she never knew
existed is after her and the one boy who may be the missing piece to the puzzle
—and her heart— is the one person she
can’t afford to trust.
Review:
Las Vegas is known for lights, gluttony, glitz and glamor, but apparently we don't know all the workings surrounding this city of sin. Seventeen-year-old, Cassandra Vera, doesn't know what lies behind the veil of fun and luxury either, until she falls head first into shadows, Gods, a House of Cards and royalty. What starts as a road trip to rebel quickly escalates into a story about a girl finding out who she really is and what humans don't know is happening right under their noses.
Cassandra was a perfect balance of character for me. She was a little naive and vulnerable but you saw hints of a heroine in her that you could admire. This gave her story the right feel for a "revealing a huge secret" kind of plot. She was clearly shocked by what we found about the houses of Vegas but at the same time her connection to this world was obvious by her pull towards it. This gave me as the reader to perfect view point for this coming of age tale. She flirted with AJ just like I'd expect a girl her age too, even though she knows he can't be trusted, and made it a very believable story.....ya know other than Gods, monsters and paranormal...oh my!
The world was what really stood out for me in Enchanted Hearts. The centuries old struggle that was going on was fascinating and since it is Sin City, the fact that these creatures want to suck the soul out of tourists makes sense. I think that's what really made this story work, the author took the appropriate places and inflicted a paranormal overtone on it. This gave a very real place a reason for being so extravagant and led to a great story of a girl who learns so much about herself in the process. Between the characters and world, this story was quite entertaining and a little bit mysterious, which certainly kept this readers attention from beginning to end.- My Opinion- **** 4 Stars!
