Excerpt:
A hand touches my elbow, surprising me. I start to turn, but the voice I hear stops me cold.
“Lilly.”
Oh God. It’s him. There’s no mistaking that rich, masculine treble.
What’s he doing down here?
“M-Mr. Stonehart,” I stutter, turning. I curse my inability to hide my surprise. He totally caught me off-guard. I have to look up to meet his eyes. Then up some more.
The face that I find is so striking it should belong to a Greek god.
He’s younger than I expected. Late thirties, maybe early forties.
That means he started his company when he was younger than me!
Dark scruff lines his angular cheeks. His jet-black hair is styled in long, natural waves. My fingers itch to run through it.
Totally inappropriate.
He has a prominent nose that might be too big on a less imposing man, but on him, it’s perfect.
In short, he’s a package of the purest masculinity I’ve ever seen.
And then there are his eyes. Oh my God. His eyes. They pierce into me like honing missiles. They are the deepest black I have ever seen. They would be frightening if they weren’t so beautiful. When the light reflects a certain way, you catch a glimpse of the purple underneath.
They are like midnight sapphires. His eyes reveal a cunning intellect. Those eyes do not miss a thing.
Add all that to his towering height, his wide shoulders, his confident-yet-at-ease posture… and Stonehart cuts an intimidating figure.
My gaze darts to his left hand before I can stop it. No ring. He’s unmarried.
He looks down at me, expectantly. His eyes narrow ever so slightly, and I feel like I’m being dissected, measured up, and tucked away in some small corner of his brain. I imagine this is what a gemstone feels like under the magnifying class of the most critical appraiser.
Stonehart clears his throat. I come to with a start, realizing I haven’t said anything in ages. I open my mouth, but the capacity for speech seems like a foreign concept to my brain. “I—”
Somebody bumps into me from behind. I stagger forward. I’m not used to these shoes, so my heel steps the wrong way. My ankle twists under me, and I start to fall.
I don’t fall far. The hand still on my elbow tightens, and Stonehart pulls me into him.
I plaster myself onto the solid steel wall the man has for a body. I catch a scent of his cologne. It’s a deep, musky smell with a hint of charred spruce that is all male. It scrambles my thoughts even more.
“Sorry!” a rushed voice calls out. From the corner of my eye, I see the postman giving a hurried, apologetic wave.
Although the sequence lasts less than a second, it feels like an eternity. Pressed up against him like that, I don’t want to move. I know that I couldn’t have made a worse first impression.

Review: Blatant Deception by Mary Jo Fay

Blurb:
Inspired by true events ... When lonely psychotherapist Claudia Carson goes online to find love, she gets a lot more than she bargained for. Believing that she has met Diego, the man of her dreams, she falls for him hard and fast in a matter of days. Yet, little does she know that the true identity of her steamy email relationship is a sexual predator by the name of Jonathan Fardy who sits in his secret lair, hoping to find perfect victims to toy with online. A mild-mannered real estate agent by day, he is the geeky, office chum -barely noticed by those around him. If they only knew what he did behind closed doors. Due to some odd coincidences that play out, Fardy ends up in Claudia's house - unbeknownst to her- and as the stakes are upped, he goes from being an Internet jerk to a potentially dangerous predator. Blinded by her infatuation with the mysterious Diego, Claudia ignores all the red flags screaming at her to run and realizes only too late that it's not that easy to pull the plug on the man on the other end of cyberspace.

Review:

Blatant Deception is a story that will hit close to home for the millions of people all over the interwebs that involve themselves in the process of online dating and intimacy. While you are typing away about who you are and what you like to do, do you ever stop to think who really is on the other end of those cables and fiber optics? Claudia Carson is a psychotherapist that should have known what risks she was taking, but when you are caught up in the hot fantasies that she involved herself with....you might not be looking to hard at what you are doing.

To be quite honest Claudia wasn't someone that I had a lot of sympathy towards. She went online and purposely teased men and really just screwed with them at points, so it was hard for me to not to think, well girl you are getting what you gave here. However, nobody deserves the scary things that came when Jonathon Fardy escalated things the way he did. He was also a great thriller character, mostly because he was so bad and creepy that it made me frown multiple times in the things he did. Fardy was a great villain because I believed he was that crazy in every page. The double life he led was just what I pictured someone online doing, and the way he crafted every little detail in luring her in was pure evil genius.

I'm not normally a thriller type of person but Blatant Deception did hold the quality of relating to the characters and their situations so I would encourage anyone to read this regardless of genre. The characters are flushed out well, the plot moves along at a pace that flows nicely with the content and the conversations that they have online are hot! This books balances the warning of online life with the story telling of a thrilling tale and I loved that!- My Opinion- **** 4 Stars!

Review + Blog Tour + Giveaway: Desecration: The Wizard Queen at Sixteen by Hadley Holt

Blurb:
In a hidden world of wizards where only men hold the power of magic, one girl arises with the power to change everything, if she isn’t killed first…

Adriana Victoriana Evangelista (Addie), daughter to the High Chancellor of the Wizard’s Council, has always been the perfect wizard girl. She never questions why men possess magical powers and women have no power at all, magical or otherwise. Male wizards blend into the modern human world, leading huge corporations while wizard women are sequestered away.

On her sixteenth birthday, Addie discovers she possesses magic. Under wizard law, she is a desecration. An ancient prophecy surrounds the emergence of a girl magic-wielder, the wizard queen, who is destined to bring about the downfall of the wizard-kin.

Addie has long had a forbidden crush on a human boy who lives in the wizard stronghold, Rory Devlin. As she delves deeper into the dangerous mysteries surrounding her own destiny, she suspects Rory might be more than just human.

Addie’s fate sends her straight into the path of a powerful and evil sorcerer, but the worst danger of all may come from right inside her own home.

Review:

Imagine the biggest CEOs you can think being a wizard in their private lives, while keeping their magical communities secret with their women falling under a strict hand and you've got Desecration wrapped in a tight little bundle. However, there are so many things that are changing when Adriana turns sixteen and her life changes forever. This story of magic and love really gives you a coming of age tail that is anything but ordinary. From magic powers to prophecies to animal followers, there is so much packed into one story it will leave your head spinning from everything that unfolds.

Addie and her cast of characters were really a cohesive bunch. You have her family that really sets up a great set of friction to deal with, her friends that leave with a fascinating look into a younger generations way of dealing with old school rules and then her love interest which defies all the race barriers that are in her world. That romance was really something beautiful. It was innocent teenage attraction and I loved that! It was refreshing to read a book about a girl that made mistakes because she acted first before thinking and who can have a crush on a boy escalate into love and not have to worry about other sexual things getting in the way of the story.

I would have loved to hear more about the background to the magic world. I felt like I got hints of it by introducing other types of magic like mages etc. but never really got a full blown history, which would have been nice. The other issues I had was this isn't a story that was unique. It was an awesome story, but one I have read before. It had some great action and a convincing love story which was great. I loved the characters and how they were developed, I was just looking for a little more. If you are looking for a modern take on a magic element, I think you will really enjoy this book!- My Opinion- *** 3 Stars!

Blog Tour + Interview + Giveaway: Desires by Galia Ryan

Desires by Galia Ryan

Description:

Anna is one of Elite Escort Agency's most popular call girls. She is quite comfortable living in the lap of luxury and pleasing a variety of wealthy men on her own terms; however, she longs to return to respectability. Only now she is accustomed to the best of everything. So Anna embarks on a quest to discover what else she is good for, other than dazzling every man who crosses her path.

Anna's calm is shattered when a former client resurfaces. A few years earlier Adam introduced Anna to bondage and submission. But although he held her in his thrall, Adam overestimated his power. When he demanded total surrender, she cut herself off from him forever. Now Adam is asking to see her again. Initially she refuses, but what can she do? She can't stop thinking about him.

The owner of Elite, Stephanie, is also haunted by memories of a former lover--Giancarlo, now married and dedicated to charitable work. When, after ten years, they come together once more, neither can resist the pull of their unresolved past, despite the possible consequences to Giancarlo's career.

Desires is Book 3 of the Luxuria Trilogy. It completes the cycle that began with Anna's story in Choices and Stephanie's in Secrets.

Interview:

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Well, I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I don’t think there was ever a defining moment.  If you mean at what point did I first wonder if I could write well enough to earn an income from it, then it would be with my first successfully submitted manuscript.  Suddenly the possibility of a whole new world opened up, and that was exciting.

When you are writing, do you set it up in an outline first or do you just formulate a plan in your head and start writing?

The second!   Often an opening line, or block of text comes into my mind from nowhere, and I save it in a file until I have time to muse on it, and wonder why, when, how.  If I then get a light-bulb moment, I hit the keyboard.  If not, I leave it filed for another time.

Where do you like to write and what does that space look like?

I have a small office at the back of our apartment that faces east, and so gets the lovely morning sun.  It’s cluttered with paperwork, and other homeless oddities, but I keep all that behind me, out of line of sight!  I have whiteboards on the wall, one a planner to keep me on track and remember birthdays, and one for scribble.

Does music ever influence what you write?

No.  I love music, but story lines and plots come from somewhere inside my head.

What does a “normal” weekday look like for you?  Conversely, what do you enjoy doing on a typical weekend?

Up at six-thirty and write until nine, when I have to get ready for mainstream work.  I manage a team of sales people in the tourism industry, which can be hectic in peak season, but the enthusiasm and interaction of the crew is highly rewarding.  I’m home again around seven-thirty or eight, and then it’s time to relax with my husband.

At the weekends, if I’m working on a novel I usually write on Saturdays.  Sundays is pure indulgence!  Usually a long walk, or visiting family.

Now that you have three books under your belt, do you have any plans for other books, if so what can we expect?

More of the same, since I love writing erotica.  I am contracted for another novel and six short stories, to be published throughout the year and then gathered for an anthology in 2015.  Two have already been submitted, and yes, they both feature strong women!   Another features a two-worlds-colliding theme, and a strong, determined, glass-ceiling-crashing woman with a yearning to be sexually dominated.  The more powerful she is in her public life, the more desperate and vulnerable her private life becomes.

If you could have drinks with any living author, who would it be and why?

Gosh, there’s so many, and for different reasons!  I’d like to discuss the pros and cons of having a series of books all centered around one character, Jack Reacher in this case, with Lee Child, and
I’d like to talk to Edward Rutherford and Thomas Kennelly on researching epic historical novels, and handling the commitment.

Excerpt:
“Valerian Orleán, welcome to the Okarian Sector’s Database Library.”

The voice is female, soft, low—and not just a little sexy. I smile and look around the room as if someone could be watching.

“Hello,” I say, feeling a little stupid.

“I am your guide, but before we begin exploring, tell me how you want me to address you.”

  “Vale, just Vale.”

“Very good, Vale, just Vale.” I think I detect the hint of a smile in her reply and remind myself I’m talking to a computer. “Now, you must name me,” she says. “What will you call me?”

Remy. It’s the first thing that pops into my head. No. No, how stupid. Why did I think of that? I can’t possibly name my C-Link after—no. “Don’t you have a name already?” I ask.

“No, Vale, this is a part of the process of acquiring a C-Link.”

  “Can’t you pick something yourself?”

“To avoid naming me is to avoid yourself. You must choose.”

Not even a minute has gone by and she’s already seeing past my tricks. Or maybe that’s a common evasion strategy, and the computer’s basic programming is designed to prevent indecision.

“Okay, fine. This is harder than I thought, though.” I sit down in my chair and lean back, taking a deep breath. I need to come up with a good name. After all, I am—hopefully—going to be living with this system for a very long time, and because the system adapts to each individual’s personality and speech patterns, it’s important to start out with the right relationship. It’s almost as though the system becomes an extension of your brain. It’s impossible to undo your creation. You can only destroy it and start over.

My mother would never tell me what she named hers—hell, she barely acknowledges she has a C-Link—but I know my father named his “Laika” after the first dog sent into space by the USSR centuries ago. He thought it was both a sign that the computer ought to be as obedient to him as a dog to its owner, and recognition of the technological power and available resources of the old world. I should choose something equally meaningful.

Then it hits me. “Demeter. Your name is Demeter, after the ancient Greek goddess of the harvest, to constantly remind myself what we strive for: to feed our people and to master nature so the famines of the past never return.”

Bethlehem took her first breath as her mother took her last.

Left to survive in overcrowded Ethiopian orphanages, she developed survival skills rivaling a warrior - a fierce, independent fighter before she could walk or talk. As she approached her second birthday, Bethlehem lived her days guided by two rules: everyone leaves and trust no one.

A world away in Canada, Tory Witcraft is trying to adopt from Ethiopia with her husband, Matt, when her adoption agency goes bankrupt, threatening her dreams of becoming a mother. Against the advice of many, including government officials threatening to revoke the adoption, she goes to Ethiopia, and her new daughter, Bethlehem.

When they finally meet, both mother and daughter struggle to connect, each trapped by their own fears and demons. Emotions and tempers run hot. Hearts and dreams collide, shattering a family before it could fully form.

The adoption journey was difficult, but no one expected the hardest part of the journey would begin once they met.

EXCERPT

An itty bitty little thing of a girl came running into the room. Bouncing high with each step as she flew at them and promptly threw herself into Matt’s lap. Tory’s hand clutched her face, her breath stopped in her chest as she watched Matt draw the little girl close. His body rocked as he held her, his face split into a smile of pure joy.
“Daddy!” she cried out in a squeaky voice. She grabbed Matt’s face kissing each cheek with a big, slimy, open mouth kiss.
“Bethlehem!” Matt breathed out as he hugged her and kissed the top of her head.
“Bethlehem,” Tory whispered the name, as if saying it for the first time as she took in the face of the little girl she had studied through pictures for months. Blowing up the pictures until she could examine every facet of the the little girls features. Seeing her up close, face to face, finally close enough to touch left Tory breathless. Her skin itched to touch her. With a tentative hand she stroked her back.

Review:

I want to hang out with Shannon Kelly. She is the coolest protagonist I have read about in a long time, and I couldn't stop laughing at all her inner monologue throughout the whole story. She was rude, crude and down right sassy! I loved that she could hang with a bunch of macho guys and watch sports, then the next chapter she is talking about dressing up in a great dress and heels. In fact, I got so caught up in the dynamic that was going on inside her head with her men that most of the book went by with me being completely satisfied that the major plot points kind of slithered up unbeknownst to me!

The men in this story were great, even if I wanted to know more about them. Sully, Cally and Kavy were convincing pseudo-brothers for Shannon and I loved the dynamic between the four was very clear from the start of the book all the way to the end. Which I thought was going to be hard to do, but it succeed. They provide a solid ground in which Shannon can build other relationships off of and that's very important considering her past. Then you had sexy Kellerman into the picture and it completes her male circle. I was a little shocked at how fast they accepted Kellerman being with the Kid, but I ultimately didn't care because the relationship just worked from the beginning. There was, however, one person that didn't work with everyone else. Taylor.

I didn't need his interactions with Shannon to make this book work for me. I know he dropped some bombs at the end of the story but really that could have been completed by somebody else and I just found his character a distraction to the romance involved here and the relationships with other people. Overall, though, I loved this book. It had an equal parts sarcasm, fun, drama, tragedy and excitement that it drew you in with shades of black but really ended up giving you a lot of light emotions throughout. I can tell we have a long ways to go with these 5 crazy people but I can not wait to find out what happens!!- My Opinion -****4 stars!
