Release Day Blitz + Giveaway: Wicked Thing by Angeline Kace

Blurb:
Carmyn Rafferty witnessed the aftermath of her mother's affair. She learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Especially not your spouse. So she's planned. She's planned every detail of her life: who her husband will be, what their careers will be, what their lives will be like. All to avoid the pain of infidelity.

Dallas Brown lives a life all his own. He doesn't do relationships, he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, and he doesn't live up to anyone's expectations but his own.

When Carmyn's fiancé cheats on her, it sends her into a whirlwind of one-night stands with the most infamous player on campus. She can't seem to stay away from this tough guy and his dangerous motorcycle. Everything about him is the complete opposite of who she'd planned to fall in love with: tattoos, dark stubble along his jawline, and hair that brushes his shoulders.

As Dallas and Carmyn begin to fall deeper and deeper into each other, they learn that love can truly be a wicked, wicked thing.

Release Day Blast: Then, Now, Forever by Teadora Kostova

Blurb:
Then
Gia had let Beppe into her life so easily, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She’d held him when he’d hurt so badly he’d thought he might die; she’d talked him down when he’d been so angry he’d considered doing something he’d regret for the rest of his life.
Gia had saved his life.
At least once he needed to be strong for her.
This right now, this moment, was theirs. It belonged to them, not to abusive or dead fathers, not to guilt, regret or sorrow, not to the past or the future.
But will their love survive when tragedy separates them?
“I have to go, Gia. I’m tired and I feel empty. I know you need me, but I have nothing left to give you. I need to heal.”
“I miss you so much it’s hard to breathe.”
Now
Beppe was still Gia’s closest friend. But they’d never be anything more than that again. Remembering what it felt like to have the person you love most in the world torn away from you still hurt. Gia was determined never to be put into that position again.
There was never lack of love, but can Beppe win Gia’s trust again?

Forever
“When I was broken you gave me pieces of yourself and made me whole again.”

About the author:

Hi, my name is Teodora and I live in London with my husband Ted and my son Jason. I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it became my full time job in 2010 when I decided that everything else I've tried bores me to death and I have to do what I've always wanted to do, but never had to guts to fully embrace. I've been a journalist, an editor, a personal assistant and an interior designer among another things, but as soon as the novelty of the new, exciting job wears off, I always go back to writing. Being twitchy, impatient, loud and hasty are not qualities that help a writer, because I have to sit alone, preferably still, and write for most of the day, but I absolutely love it. It's the only time that I'm truly at peace and the only thing I can do for more than ten minutes at a time - my son has a bigger attention span than me.
When I'm procrastinating, I like to go to the gym, cook Italian meals (and eat them), read, listen to rock music, watch indie movies and True Blood re-runs. Or, in the worst case scenario, get beaten at every Wii game by a six year old.

Review: The Children of Hurin by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Children of HĂşrin

Review:
Alas, I think Tolkien and I are destined to be frenemies. I love all things Middle Earth, don't get me wrong, but it literally takes me weeks to actually read a book from him. Take The Children of Hurin as an example...I just finished....after starting on the 3rd of August....for me that is way to long to get through a story. However, I can't fault it because oh what a story it was! Middle Earth is always a fascinating place to read about and all the creatures are interesting in there own way.

This one takes us way back, way before The Hobbit and even further from The Lord of the Rings. In fact, I believe the trees in the Lord of the Rings actually lived in this part of Middle Earth before they had to move because of the big flood. It's always nice to get back ground information about a story and this story definitely shows what life was like before Bilbo and company tread on these grounds. This family of characters were just as fascinating as other fan favorites and the spirits and creatures sent by the Dark Lord were AWESOME. Did I mention dragons? I should mention dragons because the spirit sent after them is one and dragons make everything better! Simply put, another great story from Tolkien, and I encourage everyone to read SOMETHING of his....it may just take you a while to get through it. -My Opinion- Borrow it

Review(Mini): Creatures of Forever by Christopher Pike

Creatures of Forever

Review:
I....I um....

I'm kind of at a loss for words.

I felt like this book took a hard left turn somewhere between the end of the previous book and this one, and never came back.

This was way more sci-fi than any of the others and I had this horrible feeling like the whole 6 book series was nothing but a dream within a dream scenario. I wasn't sure where we were, what time period we were in or who was who at any point throughout the whole thing. Then I was completely disappointed by how we got our happily ever after. It just wasn't natural, if that's the word I really want to use. We worked through so many huge scenarios and we get a white guerrilla?

I was really disappointed, just in general, I really enjoyed this up to now and had high hopes for a finale.

I didn't get it and that was really sad :(  -My Opinion-Bypass

Review(Mini): Evil Thirst by Christopher Pike

Evil Thirst (The Last Vampire, #5)

Review:
This series has literally taken me down every dark path you can imagine and turned around at the end just to go someplace different.....and that's kind of amazing. It is really an astonishing thing to accomplish if I'm being honest, because you would think you'd either lose interest or have a story line that just didn't work. I haven't had to deal with either of those so far.

In this one Sita has to face the facts that her daughter is evil, and she may have to destroy her. I felt awful for her for the majority of this book. How could you choose either? Save the world or save your daughter? I'm not a mom but I can imagine what would go through ones head at even the thought of some sort of harm coming to your daughter....and you have to do the harming? Yikes. I really liked how the story keeps changing and we get new fresh material in every book so I'm looking forward to what's next.- My Opinion-Borrow it

Review(Mini): Phantom by Christopher Pike

Phantom (The Last Vampire, #4)

Review:
What just happened.....

I feel like I just went through so much in this book that I can't even keep it all straight!

At the end of the last book we find Sita NOT a vampire anymore (which was nuts), so where are we going from there you might ask? Well, she's pregnant! At which point she has the fast gestational period of any myth, creature or person I have ever seen in a book. Oh, and BTW Ray, not dead, but I was really happy about that because I was so sad when we thought we lost him!

Now, the other side to this is guess who's back? That right Mr. Creator-who-is-only-a-hand. That is definitely on the creepy side of things, especially when it talks about the hand sewing itself and all that nonsense. I don't know how much further I'm going to read this series but this almost felt like a filler book. We needed a story line to move the series forward and maybe get to something huge in the next one...kinda like a Doctor Who episode. BUT as all Whovians know, there is always that big ending coming after we see some crazy monsters so I'm hoping for better things in the future for Sita! -My Opinion-Borrow it

Excerpt:
I spent the whole night reading all the files that Samantha had given to me, and I couldn’t find anything new. The next day, I was so tired that I left Kevin playing video games and went to take a nap in the middle of the day. In my exhausted state, I smiled, remembering the old Nick.

“Why are you crying?”

“I’m not. I don’t cry,” I said, sniffling.

“Okay, well… here, take this,” he said, taking off his sweater while standing in the cold in his white T-shirt. “Your face is wet for some reason,” he smiled.

“I don’t need that.”

“You have mascara running down your cheeks. Come here,” he said, and wiped my face with his sweater. He was so gentle and caring and nice that my tears betrayed me and poured down my face, embarrassingly. He held me with my head against his hard chest for a long while.

“Oh, my God, why can’t I stop crying?”

“Don’t worry about it, let it out. I’ll hold you.”

I pulled away. “No, you don’t have to. I’m fine. Thanks.”

“So you punched her. You’ll be all right.”

“No, they’re going to kick me out for not controlling my anger!” I squeaked.

“I won't let it happen, Annie, I promise.”

I laughed. “What could you possibly do?”

“I’ll stand up as a witness. Lisa was pushing Beth around, and you stood up for your friend. Loyalty counts for Luminaries, you know.”

“Right,” I smiled. Now, looking at him, I couldn’t believe I had cried in his arms. “Why are you so nice to me all the time?”

“I like you.”

“Ha! Don’t you go thinking you’re adding me to your list of girls here.”

“You’ve been training with me long enough to know I’ve stopped all that,” he said, pushing my hair behind my ears.

“So?”

“So, you and I will happen. My kisses fix everything, by the way, so if you want to come closer I can—”

“Stop it, Nick. Not happening.”

He touched the tip of my nose. “Not today, maybe.”

“Not ever,” I said, still feeling the memory of his arms around me.

“Annie?”

“Yes?”

“I’m going to kiss you one day, I hope you know this.”

1. Lloyd Layton will know I exist. He once said three whole words to me, so this is obviously progress. If I don’t get a proper conversation out of him soon, then I’ll take my top off and streak through the cafeteria, because nobody could fail to notice these boobs.

Those are the words that begin her mission.
Chessie is fourteen, not pretty enough, and very much in love. Lloyd Layton is hot, popular, and unaware of Chessie’s existence.
Her goal is clear: to get Lloyd to love her as much as she loves him, and she has exactly one year to do it.

Dream Cast:

Chessie: AnnaSophia Robb.
Most recently seen playing a young Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries, I think AnnaSophia Robb would make a perfect Chessie. She’s been one of my favourite actresses since I saw her in Bridge To Terabithia years ago, and she’s grown up a lot since then and I still think she’s brilliant. I always wanted Chessie to be a lot prettier than she thinks she is – I think everyone gets so caught up in comparing themselves to other people that often they miss what’s right in front of them – and this is the case with Chessie. Just because she thinks she’s not pretty enough for Lloyd, doesn’t mean she’s not pretty at all, just that she’s so busy comparing herself to the supermodel-looks girls that she assumes Lloyd would go for.

Lloyd: Alex Pettyfer.
Lloyd had to be tall and gorgeous. I think Alex Pettyfer fits the bill, right? He was actually the easiest one to cast, although it did take a lot of staring at gorgeous men, as soon as I saw him I knew he’d be the perfect Lloyd. Lloyd had to be obviously gorgeous, he’s the most popular boy in school, so there has to be a reason girls are drooling all over him! I wanted him to have model good looks, but also have an ego and know just how good looking he is. I mean, you can’t really miss it, can you?!

Debs: Demi Lovato
Chessie’s best friend Debs would be played by Demi Lovato, although perhaps the younger Demi Lovato of Camp Rock days rather than the more recent X Factor Demi Lovato! Debs is supportive, loyal, and always there for Chessie, and I think the young Demi gives off a real ‘best friend’ vibe.

Excerpt:
I remember the first time I ever laid eyes on Lloyd Layton. It was during a school assembly in June last year. He was sitting in the main hall, a row in front of me as we all sat in lines, gathered for a mind-numbingly boring lecture from the principal.

I noticed Lloyd because he was talking to Ewan. Ewan and I have been friends forever. I’ve known him, literally, since nursery school. Our mums are really good friends. My dad died when I was seven and Ewan’s mum came to stay with us for a few days to help my mum get over the shock.

Here in Wales, at Bach Afon Comprehensive School at least, each form is made up of a few kids from each primary school in the area, and known by the year and an alphabet letter. We’re in 9B. Lloyd is in 9C.

Debs, Ewan and I are the ones from our primary school in our form. We’ve all known each other for years, and so we’re good friends and usually stick together unless Ewan decides to be all macho at lunchtime and hang around with a gang of boys instead. His own friends from primary school are in different forms so he only sees them in the yard or if they’re in the same set for lessons. We’re divided into sets depending on our exam results from the previous year. Set One are pupils who got over sixty percent, Set Two are those who got thirty to sixty percent, and Set Three are the ones who got under thirty percent.

Anyway, this huge tall guy was talking to Ewan a row in front of me. He had to be new because I’d never seen him before, and at that size, he wasn’t exactly someone you could miss. At first glance I thought he was a year eleven, but there was no way any year eleven would let themselves be seen dead talking to a year eight, so he had to have been thirteen like the rest of us.

“Who was that?” I hissed at Ewan when he crawled back into our line.

“Lloyd Layton. He just joined 8C. He’s friends with Darren.”

Darren was Ewan’s best friend from primary school, the one who wasn’t in our form.

“He’s huge,” Debs said on the other side of me.

We didn’t see how tall he actually was until we all stood up to leave. Holy cow. I’d always thought I was quite tall. At five foot five, my growth spurt had come when I was much too young for it, and I was now one of the tallest girls in our class, and taller than most of the boys. But this new boy, Lloyd, was much taller than me, and by the looks of it, taller than most of the teachers too. He was at least six foot something. Our maths teacher is six foot three, and Lloyd looked at least that size, if not more. At thirteen, in amongst a lot of five foot nothing teenagers, you couldn’t help but notice him. He stuck out like a sore thumb.

That was six months ago. Since then we’d all moved on to year nine, up to fourteen-years-old, and I’d spent the best part of a year salivating over that tall guy.

Lloyd ended up in my set for most classes. This is fortunate or unfortunate for me, depending on how many times I embarrass myself in class. I never plucked up the courage to speak to him, but he must’ve been super intelligent. He never seemed to struggle with the work like I did. I had managed to get myself put in Set One for most classes but I didn’t belong there. People like Ewan belonged there, people who had aced all their exams with a ninety-eight percent score. Not people like me who had scraped sixty or sixty-one percent and got put into Set One because technically it was over sixty percent. Set One was for clever people. Not people who wanted to spend all their time daydreaming and chatting to Debs when the teacher wasn’t looking.
