Blog Tour: Ruby's Fire by Catherine Stine

Ruby's Fire by Catherine Stine
Series: Fireseed, #2 (however, can be read as a stand-alone)
Publication date:  June 26, 2013
Genre: YA Sci-Fi

Blurb:
If everything about you changes, what remains?

Seventeen year-old Ruby, long-pledged to the much older Stiles from the Fireseed desert cult, escapes with only a change of clothes, a pouch of Oblivion Powder and her mute little brother, Thorn. Arriving at The Greening, a boarding school for orphaned teens, she can finally stop running. Or can she? The Greening is not what it seems. Students are rampaging out of control and as she cares for the secret Fireseed crop, she experiences frightening physical changes. She’s ashamed of her attraction to burly, hard-talking Blane, the resident bodyguard, and wonders why she can’t be happy with the gentler Armonk. She’s long considered her great beauty a liability, a thing she’s misused in order to survive. And how is she to stop her dependence on Oblivion to find a real beauty within, using her talent as a maker of salves, when she has nightmares of Stiles without it?

When George Axiom, wealthy mogul of Vegas-by-the-Sea offers a huge cash prize for the winner of a student contest, Ruby is hopeful she might collect the prize to rescue her family and friends from what she now knows is a dangerous cult. But when Stiles comes to reclaim her, and Thorn sickens after creating the most astonishing contest project of all, the world Ruby knows is changed forever. This romantic fantasy set in 2099 on earth has a crafty heroine in Ruby, and a swoonworthy cast, which will surely appeal to the YA and new adult audience.

Excerpt:
Blane’s told everyone about our earlier, private conversation? I could punch him, and for announcing this to the whole room. “Okay, so if you saw another ship, what color was it?”

“Pearl blue,” Blane answers. “And when I didn’t answer the guy’s question, the ship disappeared into thin air. I’m not kidding.”

“That’s absurd.” I shiver hard. Pearl blue! How could Blane know the exact color of the ship from my sick, coma dreams?

His eyes gleam. He’s found a cat toy and I’m the cat. “I’m giving you information like you asked me to. Want to go out to the field tomorrow and see if the bearded man comes by again? Do some target practice?”

I sigh and turn away from him. Jan’s rough laughter rings out, mixed with Vesper’s. Blane isn’t laughing though. If only Thorn was here, he might be able to pick out the lies from the truths. I’m not so good at it anymore.

Then

Gia had let Beppe into her life so easily, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She’d held him when he’d hurt so badly he’d thought he might die; she’d talked him down when he’d been so angry he’d considered doing something he’d regret for the rest of his life.

 Gia had saved his life.

At least once he needed to be strong for her.

This right now, this moment, was theirs. It belonged to them, not to abusive or dead fathers, not to guilt, regret or sorrow, not to the past of the future.

“I miss you so much it’s hard to breathe.”

Now

Beppe was still Gia’s closest friend. But they’d never be anything more than that again. Remembering what it felt like to have the person you love most in the world be torn away from you still hurt. Gia was determined never to be put into that position again.

Stella

“I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the past ten months. I’ve had half my liver removed and even though this time the doctors are very optimistic that they’ve removed all of the tumours, they can’t be sure. In another three months they want me here again for a check up. Right now I feel better than I’ve ever felt. I know the damn thing is gone, at least for the moment. Despite that, I can’t make any plans for the future, not yet. I need to go somewhere where nobody knows me, where I can relax and maybe even forget about all this. Where I can meet people who don’t think of me as the girl who lost her father and her brother in a car accident, and who has cancer. I want to have fun, even if it’s for a couple of months.”

When Stella decides to visit her estranged cousin Lisa in Genoa, she has no idea Italy will give her a new reason to live.

Max

“Her gaze locked on a scene so beautiful, the picturesque beach paled in comparison. A lifeguard emerged from the water, his orange trunks stuck to his legs and water dripping all over him. He shook his head to get rid of some of the water in his hair and Stella felt as if everything started developing in slow motion – tiny drops of water slid from his neck down his broad chest and muscular arms, along a weaving tattoo on his right shoulder, and continued downwards towards his chest and washboard stomach, finally getting lost in the waistband of his trunks. A part of another tattoo peeked over his trunks on his left hip, the other part hidden under them. It was a total Baywatch moment.”

Their love is epic. But there are too many things keeping them apart.

“How could you keep this from me, Lisa? If you had told me the first day I met him, I would have avoided him like the plague. Nothing would have happened between us.”

“I kept your secrets, too, Stella.”

Are Max and Stella strong enough to fight not only for their love, but for their lives?

About the author:

Hi, my name is Teodora and I live in London with my husband Ted and my son Jason. I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it became my full time job in 2010 when I decided that everything else I've tried bores me to death and I have to do what I've always wanted to do, but never had to guts to fully embrace. I've been a journalist, an editor, a personal assistant and an interior designer among other things, but as soon as the novelty of the new, exciting job wears off, I always go back to writing. Being twitchy, impatient, loud and hasty are not qualities that help a writer, because I have to sit alone, preferably still, and write for most of the day, but I absolutely love it. It's the only time that I'm truly at peace and the only thing I can do for more than ten minutes at a time - my son has a bigger attention span than me.

When I'm procrastinating, I like to go to the gym, cook Italian meals (and eat them), read, listen to rock music, watch indie movies and True Blood re-runs. Or, in the worst case scenario, get beaten at every Wii game by a five year old.

Review + Blog Tour: Love Unbroken by Victoria Bright

Love Unbroken
By Victoria Bright
Genre-Spicy/ New Adult Contemporary Romance

Blurb:
Love...it can be a beautiful dream or a disastrous nightmare. What happens to a love bond that is constantly strained by lies, betrayal, cheating, and pain? Will it eventually corrode, or will love and trust keep it together?

Camille Anderson, a beautiful, sassy, curly-haired college student only has eyes for one man, Ahmad. She sees herself with no one else...that is until she meets Keith, her new study partner. Will she be able to fight temptation or will one small mistake cause her to lose Ahmad's trust and their relationship?

Ahmad Dawson, a sizzling hot, athletic personal trainer is obsessed with his girlfriend Camille. Not really the marriage type of guy, he is considering changing that mentality for her. Things were going smooth until Kelly, one of his clients, began to intrude on his relationship as well as his career. Will the desire of promotion lead him to do things that he shouldn't? Or will he stay true to his woman and his values?

The new people in Ahmad and Camille's lives are starting to create chaos and are slowly tearing them apart. After a deceptive plan is put into action, everything is turned upside down. Will this bring Ahmad and Camille closer together? Or has enough damage been done to break their bond?

Get it here:

Excerpt:
He watched her in amusement as she tried biting into a burger that was almost as big as her head. She kept turning the burger in different positions trying to find a place where she could bite into it without making a huge mess on her face. Ahmad laughed.

“Baby, just cut it in half. You’ll find an easier way to bite it then,” he said, still laughing. Camille stuck her tongue out at him.

“I’m a big girl, I can handle this burger,” she said and took a bite out of it. Ketchup, mayonnaise and tomato all slipped out of the other end of the sandwich, most of it ending up on her hands. He was now laughing uncontrollably as he passed her a few napkins. She grinned and kicked him under the table as she retrieved the napkin to clean herself up.

He took this time to soak up his woman’s beauty. Her thick, natural curly hair hung loosely around her shoulders, with a few curls cradling her face, making her look sweet and innocent.  Her big brown eyes were what drew him to her when he first met her. It were those kind of eyes that made you want to protect and love the person they belonged to. Then there were those sexy, deep dimples she had when she smiled that made his heart beat a little faster. Her body was nice, slim and petite, perfect for his tall athletic build. He loved everything about this woman. She was perfect.

“What are you staring at? Do I still have something on my face?” she panicked, digging into her purse for her compact mirror. He smiled and shook his head.

“You’re all good, Cammy. Don’t worry you look beautiful. I meant to tell you that I love how that sundress is hugging your body,” he said and licked his lips. She blushed. She knew that this was his favorite sundress of hers and she also knew that when he got home, he would waste no time peeling it off of her.

“Well thank you, baby. I wore it especially for you since we actually had time to eat together today. What time are you getting off? Are you coming to my place afterwards or are you going home?” she asked, taking another bite of her burger. He looked at his watched and saw that it was already 3 pm.

“I get off at seven, but I have to swing by my house to make sure everything’s okay there. If I’m not too tired, I can come to your place tonight,” he said, rubbing his hand down his face. Camille nodded and tried to swallow the remaining food in her mouth.

“Baby, if you’re going to be tired, I can stay at your place and you can just drop me off at class on your way to work. It’ll be a little early, but I don’t want to sleep alone tonight,” she said, giving him a seductive smile. He licked his lips and grinned.
“Okay, that sounds like a plan. But I got to get back to work, babe. I’m already late,” he said as he flagged the waitress down to get the check. Camille nodded and continued to eat. She hated when they had to separate. At least she had her homework to keep her busy or else she’d lose her mind. She didn’t want to complain about the lack of time they were spending together; she could already tell that he was stressed and frustrated about work and she didn’t want to add to it.

Once the bill was paid and the food was in take-out boxes, they walked hand and hand to his car. He opened the passenger door for her and closed it behind her.

“So where am I taking you to?” he asked, climbing into the driver’s seat. She shrugged. She didn’t have anywhere else to go.

“I guess I’ll go home and organize my notes I have so far. I have a paper due soon,” she sighed and stared out of the window. They drove to her apartment in silence. He reached over and took one of her hands into his and kissed the top of it.

“I promise I’ll try to get a day off this week and you can have me all day,” he said softly, sealing his promise. She looked at him and smiled.

“Okay. Hopefully they’ll let you off. You seem to be in high demand. Your clients see you more than I do,” she said and pouted. He glanced at her pouty lips and shook his head.

“Stop looking so pouty and mad. You know I find that very sexy about you,” he said and grinned, squeezing her hand tighter. She gave him a small smile and turned her attention back to the passing scenery outside her window.

When he got to her apartment, he walked her to her door. He could sense her sadness although she was trying to pretend nothing was wrong.

“Cammy, I promise I’ll do my best to spend some time with you tonight. I know you miss me and I miss you just as much. But in order for us to prepare for a life together, you know we need the money. I want you to focus on school. Just be patient with me, okay?” he asked, caressing her cheek to bring her attention back to him. She nodded and walked into his embrace, hugging him tightly. He lifted her chin and kissed her passionately, making sure she felt the love that flowed through him for her. “I love you, girl,” he whispered when he let her go.

“I love you too, baby,” she said breathlessly. He waited until she was safely inside before he returned to his car and headed back to work.

Review:
I feel like i can describe this book in one word: Drama.

Now that isn't exactly what a review SHOULD exist of, so let me give a little more to go on about Love Unbroken. We meet Ahmad, the perennial bachelor who says he will never get married. Of course that's not how everything turns out because he meets to sexy and strong Camille and she is everything he could possibly ask for in a women. However, fate decides to toss these two some curve balls that might just end there relationship forever. Can they make it through a test from someone they never saw coming? Can they make there relationship last with back stabbing going on? You'll have to read to find out, but let me tell you why I enjoyed this book.

Camille is really why I liked this book so much. Yes, she was a beautiful women who loves with passion but she is incredibly smart and STRONG. She has taken her lumps and moved past them to make her a better women. I love it! I wish there were more stories about women who can take what life throws at them and keep on moving. She had her ups and downs throughout the story but she still kept herself together and I felt she really was the one that was the glue in the relationship.

The one part that turned me off about this book was the amount of infidelity. In real life I'd look at these people and go WTF is your problem? Never would I ever stay with a man who cheats on me and I never understand people that stay with cheaters either, but hear me out. Despite what I would think in real life, these things are what the story engaging and emotional to read. The bumps along the way made a story that could smile and crush your heart at the same time. This is why we read stories....to feel. I had lots of feels why reading this story, no matter positive or negative, and that is why I think you should pick up a copy of Love Unbroken-My Opinion- Buy it!

After losing a very important woman in his life, he begins to make reckless decisions that threaten his relationship with Camille. Camille Anderson is a Computer Science major who is wants nothing more than to marry the man of her dreams and have a family. When Ahmad starts to push her away as his way of grieving, their relationship begins to go downhill. With all of the drama ranging from her boyfriend to being betrayed by her best friend, Camille has had enough. Will she learn to forgive and move on?

Kelly is one of Ahmad’s clients that he trains at the gym who tries to seduce him. Trying to get Camille out of the picture, she does everything in her power to get what she wants. “Over the Rainbow” Short Excerpt

The end was coming, faster and faster, as the plane plummeted. I peered into the carrier to see a little white terrier staring back at me.

When I closed my eyes for the final time I felt two ice-cold tears roll down my cheeks.

            “Mira… I love you… I love you… I—”

The plane collided against the Earth, and I launched forward, struck my head against the cargo door, and blacked out.

Cover Reveal + Giveaway: Wolf Dream by M.R. Polish

Wolf Dream by M.R. Polish
Summary:
The Reaping Spell has weakened her greatest enemy, but now Esmerelda faces a different threat - one that haunts her dreams. To finally defeat Nicholas and end his madness for good, she must travel back to Spain with the help of her powerful friends.

What she doesn’t know is that in his weakness, Nicholas made a deal with the Death Keeper – his soul in exchange for Esmerelda’s life. Worse, she soon learns that the ones she trusted most have become part of her nightmares. The only one she can trust is the man who holds her heart, and together they must fight Nicholas to the death.

Fighting to stay awake so Nicholas can’t find her in sleep, Esmerelda prepares for the battle that will finish this war. One of them must die for her nightmares to end - unless the Death Keeper, with plans of his own for Esmerelda’s soul, gets to her first.

Teaser from Wolf Dream:
“Esmerelda, I need your help!” Julie yelled from the front of the plane.
That worried me even more than dying. She never needed—let alone wanted—my help. I ran as fast as I could, jumping over the dead bodies to get to the cockpit.
She looked at me with wide eyes. “He won’t wake up. I don’t know what’s wrong.”
Jarak was there first, grabbing Julie and pulling her out of the way. “Move, Es, I can’t let this happen, not right now. It’s not right.”
I didn’t understand what he meant but moved anyway. Ian was right behind me. “Camilla and Lauren went to take care of the other three breeds and Ailaina went to find a first aid kit to help Lauren.”
I nodded but it all felt so surreal. Was this really happening?
“Damn it, Julie, why’d you have to put them to sleep?” Ian asked.
“Don’t yell at me. I did what I had to do.”
Jarak tried every combination to open the cockpit door but nothing worked. Ian pushed past me to Jarak. “Move over, I got this.” He slammed into the door with his shoulder, creating a small but otherwise useless dent. Turbulence jerked the plane as Ian hit it again.
“Hey, man, I don’t see what you’re trying to do. This door is made to withhold attacks,” Jarak said as he returned to the door.
“Well, wise one, the plane is going down because smarty pants over there put the pilot to sleep and can’t wake the pilot. We,” he used his finger to point at all of us in a circle, “are the only ones awake. So, we need to get in there.”
Hearing Ian confirm my fear of why the plane was descending so fast scared me even more. “Let him try, Jarak.”
“Fine, but what are you gonna do once you get in there? None of us know how to fly a plane.”
“I’ll figure that out, right now we just need to open this door.” Ian plowed into the door again.
“That won’t work,” Camilla said as she neared the cockpit.
Jarak raised his hands in surrender. “I’ve already tried to tell him.”
“Here, let me.” She walked up to the door with a set of keys.
Ian moved back over by me, rubbing his shoulder. “Well, now you show up.”

Her teacher told her she could be anything she wanted and that she had a talant for writing, being creative and drawing people into her stories. M.R. took that to heart and continued to write, although mostly in secret until recent years.
Now you can find her enjoying life with her family - wrangling her four kids, setting traps in the house with toys for unsuspecting victims (aka, her husband) and writing down all her crazy and fun stories.

"Life is too short to stand by and watch everyone else live your dreams. The bigger the dream, the bigger the adventure!" ~ M.R. Polish
